Case Result: Improving Back Door Security – Door Closure Installation & Successful Repair
Improving Back Door Security
This job was part of a larger job in an office campus. One of the back doors was often used by employees and tenants.
It had a worn-out lever keypad lock on it, but the problem was that it did not work well. The door was often propped open with a rock during the day, but many times it remained unsecured overnight and some entire weekends.

Our solution for improving back door security:
- Remove the failing hardware.
- Used a cover plate to hide the old installation holes.
- Adjust the door for proper opening and closing – this also meant some of the old weather stripping had to be removed because it was interfering with the door and lock operation.
- We fixed and reinstalled the panic hardware, but modified it to use a pull handle that contained a key lock cylinder. This was pinned up to the building master key only to force users of this door to use the keypad and a code for access.
- AC power was brought in to run the access controller and power distribution boards. (Altronix brand used for the power and controller)
- An HES 9400 surface mounted strike was installed.
- After wiring up the components the system was programmed and tested.
The end result was a much improved overall security of the building based on experienced building security modifications and a quality structural repair for improving back door security in Colorado Springs
