Commercial Access Control Upgrade for Failing Door Hardware
A common security problem for commercial buildings is simple:
Employees forget to lock the doors when leaving.
At this property, staff were expected to secure the building at the end of the day. But employees often did not realize they were the last person out, resulting in doors being left unlocked overnight and sometimes all weekend.

Existing Door Hardware Was Failing
The building also had aging panic hardware that was becoming unreliable.
That created several problems:
- Replacement parts were not available through normal locksmith suppliers
- Only specialty door companies could source parts
- Most recommended replacing the entire door instead of repairing the hardware
To make matters worse, the panic hardware was jamming regularly and occasionally trapping occupants inside the building.
Apex Access Security’s Solution
Instead of recommending costly door replacement, Apex Access Security installed a complete commercial access control system to automate locking and improve reliability.
Installed Components
- BEA double-door magnetic lock
- Altronix power supply and distribution board
- Altronix PT724 programmable timer
- IEI keypad for code entry
- Bosch infrared motion sensor for safe interior exit
How the New System Works
The doors now lock and unlock automatically on a programmed schedule.
After hours:
- Authorized users enter with a keypad code
- Motion sensors release the locks for safe exit from inside
- Employees no longer need to remember to lock up
Installation Notes
The system was installed above the drop ceiling near the entry.
Low-voltage wire molding was used where needed for a clean finish.
The original panic hardware remained in place but was disabled because it was integrated into the door and no longer functioning properly.
After installation, Apex Access Security tested all hardware and programmed the timer and keypad system for full operation.
Final Result
The customer now has:
- Automatic scheduled door locking
- Reliable after-hours access control
- Safe and compliant interior egress
- Improved building security
- No need for expensive door replacement
